Currently Watching: Robot Girls Z

I rarely post anything anime-related in this blog since it's mainly a blog for gaming but who cares anyways? I can post whatever I want. So I just want to talk a bit about an anime I'm watching this season, Robot Girls Z.

I don't really have that much of a high standard for anime and I usually prefer comedy than stuff with drama in it so Robot Girls Z caught my attention immediately. It's a re-imagining of old Super Robot anime like Mazinger Z and Getter Robo. Change all of the robot into girls, put in lots of jokes and you get Robot Girls Z.

The comedy might not be for everyone but I find it pretty entertaining. The added bonus of seeing some hardcore mecha fans rage because this anime is "destroying their childhood" is also delicious. The anime is actually doing the opposite, since I've seen plenty of people who wanted to watch the old mecha animes to see what it's about after seeing Robot Girls Z.

Also, Prepare to root for the bad guys in this anime since the "good guys" are such bullies and the bad guys are all so adorable it makes you feel bad when you see them lose. The show does a pretty good job of deconstructing the old mecha anime genre and it's just refreshing to see.

The character designs are pretty interesting and of course, cute while still incorporating designs from the original mechas to make them familiar. It's pretty fun to look at the original forms and see how they look like in girl form.

Robot Girls Z is also a short series with 3 episodes aired every first week of each month, meaning it's 3 episodes in January, 3 in February and 3 in March. Because of the duration of the show the jokes doesn't outstay their welcome although you do hope for more, because some characters aren't shown enough on the spotlight.

All in all, if you're looking for a short distraction to watch this season, Robot Girls Z is a pretty entertaining choice. If you like super robot animes, have an open mind and wanted something related that you can watch to just relax, do give Robot Girls Z a chance. Oh, the opening is also pretty catchy and incorporates a lot of old super robot anime OP song in it.
