Defiance Beta Impressions and My Thoughts on the Business Model

I've been interested in Defiance for quite sometime because it offers a similar experience to Guild Wars 2 but with different combat mechanics and setting. The fact that it's also linked to a TV series is also a pretty big plus. I've had my hands on two Defiance beta weekends and this is my impressions of the game from both beta weekends.

Blizzard Announces Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

Well this is a bit unexpected. Mostly because there's already a World of Warcraft TCG but Blizzard's own CCG title is an online Card Game, different from the printed cards that Cryptozoic made.

Fading Line Between Genres in Games

Remember a few years back back we can just point to a game and say "this is an RPG" and "that is an FPS". Nowadays everything is also something else and plenty of games have combined elements from multiple genres that genre lines in games are really blurred.

Scarlet Blade Closed Beta Impressions

Easily offended by boobs in games? hated TERA because it's 2lewd4you? then you should probably stop reading this and move along. Seriously, because Scarlet Blade is a game that'll make TERA looks really tame in comparison. But more importantly though, is it a good game?

Greenlight It #4: C-Wars

Another interesting find in Steam Greenlight. C-Wars is a sci-fi game which combines gameplay from various genres like RTS, tower defense, tactical game and RPG. It combines interesting gameplay with really good looking pixel art and animation, reminiscent of classic SNES or GBA games.

World of Tanks Review

Boy am I late on reviewing this game. But hey, better late than never right? This Online Tank game is pretty popular right now, especially in Russia. The game might not be for everyone because of its difficulty but if online tank combat simulation is your thing, this is a game you definitely don't want to pass on. Oh, if my screenshot looks a bit weird with all those weaboo animu crap it's because I'm using a mod to change how the game looks. Don't like anime? too bad.

Kickstarter Watch #10: Torment: Tides of Numenara

Okay I'm still pretty shocked after seeing this game in Kickstarter so this'll be pretty short. For those of you thinking "Torment? what about it?" then I suggest you play Planescape: Torment and experience for yourself one of the best CRPG of all time.

Put Microtransaction in ALL the Games!

Well, apparently EA will put microntransactions in all of their future games. While I don't mind microtransactions in mobile games and online games(as long as it only involves cosmetics stuff) putting microtransactions in single player games is a different case entirely.

The Banner Saga: Factions First Impression

I never heard of Banner Saga before but apparently it's a pretty big deal as it's made by ex-Bioware guys. The Banner Saga went on Kickstarter and got around 7x the funding that they set out to get. Now, while the guys at Stoic Studios are working on the Single Player campaign of Banner Saga they released the multiplayer part on Steam, for free.

Star Conflict Beta Impressions

I was never a Space-Sim fan, I get disoriented easily and the controls are usually too complicated for me to get into. So imagine how I felt when I tried Star Conflict for the first time. I jumped in expecting to get upset over the usual controls but instead I came out with a new favorite game.

Greenlight It! #3: RIOT

I stumbled upon this game on Greenlight and I just love the way it looks. The style reminded me of Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery. It's simple pixel arts but when you look at it, it's just hard not to fall in love with how great it looks.

Skullgirls Indiegogo Campaign

I've been following about Skullgirls for a long time. I'm not really a fighting game player but I really like Skullgirls artstyle and character design, the fluid and good looking animation also doesn't hurt. Now the game have been struggling because of some problem with the publisher earlier on 2012 but now it's back and Skullgirls needs your help!

Freemium MMOs Are The Future

Freemium is the latest trend in MMO, and plenty of AAA games have changed their business model from Pay to Play to Freemium. There are however other MMOs that are still trying to use the Pay to Play model. Is Pay to Play model really still viable? or are Freemium and Buy to Play really the way of the future? (Do take note that when I say Freemium I also consider Free to Play and Buy to Play to be on the same boat).

Greenlight It! #2: Delver's Drop

Quite some time since the last Greenlight It! huh? no matter! because you're going to like this one! It's a 2D Action RPG with physics-based movements and it looks gorgeous. Just one look at the game's video and screenshot already made me fall in love with the game, at least based on its looks.

Kickstarter Watch #9: 4chan Drinking Game

Oh this gotta be a joke right? right?...no? Okay now 4chan is pretty infamous around the net(the people there blame it on /b/ but they're all pretty much crazy). But let's just face it, what you find on 4chan is quite funny. So, what if someone created a 4chan drinking game? it should be hilarious, no?

Guild Wars 2: More stuff to do together

Tentacle Bento (Review and Thoughts)

Tentacle Bento has created quite a controversy before when it's pulled from Kickstarter because some people just can't take a joke. It's already out for some time now but I never really got plenty of chances to play the game.

Games I'm Currently Playing, Feb 2013 Edition

It's been awhile since I've done these "games I'm currently playing" thing. It's not really that interesting, I know but I just like to share these as I like to share my thoughts on my blog. There aren't really many new games I've played currently but they're still pretty fun nonetheless. Here we go.

SMITE Beta Impressions

I can't believe I haven't wrote anything about SMITE yet in my blog, I feel a bit silly. I played SMITE for a bit a few months back, almost a year ago even. I enjoyed it quite a bit but eventually I went to play other games. After quite some time I decided to try out SMITE again and the difference between a few months ago and what it is right now is quite astounding.

Ghost Recon Online Review

Competitive Cover-based Third Person Shooter is a new thing for me. I've played Cover-Based TPS before like Gears of War and Mass Effect but never played a competitive one where I play against human players. On top of that, I never played any of the Ghost Recon games. So, will I like Ghost Recon Online? or would the game be too alien for me to get into?

Neverwinter Beta Impressions

Neverwinter just had their first Beta Weekend event and I got access to it and tried the game for some time. The game is definitely interesting and had some amazing concepts although it does have its share of weaknesses.

The Secret World First Impression

I played The Secret World for a bit since it went Buy to Play but haven't really experienced too much of it. However I've seen enough and played enough to post about my impressions on the game so far. Of course this is a First Impression and my thoughts about the game could change after I put more hours into the game. We'll see.

How Guild Wars 2 Ruined Other MMORPGs For Me

Not to sound like a fanboy but I'm serious when I say that playing Guild Wars 2 has ruined plenty of other MMORPGs for me. It's not that "ooh it's so good you won't want to play other games" because I'm currently playing other MMORPGs but it's the various helpful features that you take for granted which you actually miss when playing other titles.

Founder's Program Trend in Gaming

After the trend of Kickstarting a game which is still running quite well until now, game devs are starting another trend which worries me quite a bit, Founder's Programs. Plenty of games has done this namely Path of Exile, Firefall, Marvel Heroes, Neverwinter, and some others I might have forgotten. Is this really a good practice? what are the advantage and disadvantages of this program? could it be improved? let's explore about this a bit.

Tekken Card Tournament Beta Impressions

Everyone and their mother knows Tekken so I don't even have to tell you how awesome it is when I heard that they're combining it with Trading Card Game mechanics. I know that it has been done before with the Universal Fighting System TCG but this time, it's also available online.

Kickstarter Watch #8: CRYAMORE

We're back to Kickstarter Watch! In this 8th Kickstarter Watch I'm going to talk about Cryamore, an Action Adventure game with RPG elements designed to be reminiscent of classic adventure games such as Legend of Zelda, Megaman, Brave Fencer Musashi, Legend/Secret of Mana and Metroid.
